Smartypants Chick Goes to Roma

Books, books, books, loves of my life. You can learn from them, you can get lost in them and wish you never left the world enclosed in their pages. While Pope Nicholas V and I likely have very little in common when it comes to taste of reading material, Nicholas V was a lover of books as well. Hughes quotes in Rome “Vespasiano da Bisticci remembered how Nicholas ‘used to say that he would like to do two things, if he ever had the money: form a library and build'”. Nicholas was born on November 15, 1397. He was pope from March 6, 1447 until the his death in 1455. His books collecting cost a pretty penny, but hey, the guy was a pope and could afford such thing, what with all the selling of spiritual rewards and straight shots to heaven the Church was selling.
